I have been meaning to blog about this ever since the weather started warming up in May, but this week has pushed me over the edge so I’m finally getting around to it. Warm weather seems to bring out all the crazies that like to participate in activities that put them on roadways, without being in automobiles. Running, bicycling, riding scooters, walking dogs, or speed walking. (From this point on I will refer to these individuals strictly as “crazies” or “a crazy” in this entry)
If it is a nice day outside I can expect to dodge at least 5 crazies on my way home from work. A few crazies riding bikes during rush hour (not the smartest idea ever) a few young crazies on Razor scooters or scooters that go a whopping 5mph at their fastest (Where are their parents?), and a few crazies running with headphones on (also, not the smartest idea ever if you are running on the road during rush hour, which all these crazies are!) My main beef with the crazies is that they are putting themselves and automobile drivers in harms way. Inevitably, when I am approaching a crazy (or group of crazies) there is a vehicle coming the other direction so I either have to swerve quickly to get around the crazy or slam on my brakes to avoid hitting the crazy in the butt and jettisoning them into next Tuesday. Neither option is safe for me, the other drivers, or (most obviously) the CRAZIES!
Don’t get me wrong, I understand that people like to do outdoor activities for fitness and/or fun (though I don’t think any of those activities are fun personally). However, the crazies need to use more sense about when and where they do such activities. No, the crazies are not riding, walking, etc. on the interstate, but they are doing their activities on main thoroughfares during RUSH HOUR! Come on! Of course, if I thought these folks were sensible folks then I would have a different name for them then “crazies” so maybe I can’t expect any more out of them.
Note to all crazies: Stay off of High School Road, Tibbs Road, and Banta road between the hours of 4:45pm and 5:30pm Monday-Friday otherwise you run the risk of getting accidentally mowed over by a crazy-hater!

I used to be a "crazy". If I didn't have a hamstring problem I'd be out there right now irritating drivers!
